Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Day at the El Paso Zoo

EHN is excited to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month with a special event dedicated specifically to children’s mental health awareness. For Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Day, recongized on Saturday, May 6, 2023 EHN would like to remind our community that “acceptance” is caring for our mental health just like we would our physical health. “We embrace and accept treatment and services needed for diabetes and other illnesses. Mental health should be no different,” said Kristi Daugherty, CEO Emergence Health Network. “

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States and 2nd leading cause among young adults. However, it could be years between the time symptoms first appear and when individuals get help. Early identification and treatment can make a difference in successful management of mental illness and recovery. “Ask friends, co-workers, and family how they are doing and if you need to speak more in-depth to a mental health professional, take that step,” added Daugherty.

The Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Day and Communnity Resource Fair is scheduled for Saturday, May 6th at the El Paso Zoo 9 am – 1 pm. The first 150 kids will get free admission into the zoo, along with the first 100 adults.  There will also be several free family fun activites such as a DJ,  magic show, Princess Singing and Dance Show and special proformances by the Riverside High School Drumline and Youth Ballroom Shundo Dance Club.  Kids can also get free face paintings and rides on the zoo carousel from 9 am – 1pm.  Plus, as part of the Community Resource Fair, several local agencies that privide services for children will have their informational booths there to help educate the public about their services.
