Emergence Health Network, in collaboration with the El Paso Independent School District is now offering school-based mental health services at various campuses within the district to include El Paso High, Franklin High, Austin High, Bowie High School and Canyon Hills Middle School. The goal of the program is to improve access to care for students and enhance mental health awareness. EHN’s mental health professionals are positioned within the schools which means parents do not have to get their child out of school for an outpatient appointment.
Services include therapy for behavioral health concerns, caseworker management, and sessions with a licensed chemical dependency counselor if needed. Through the school-based program the behavioral health professionals also offer training and education for students, parents and school staff such as parenting classes, importance of self-care and burn out prevention for educators, how to understand and support children with mental illness, strategies for everyday stressors, recognizing substance use and suicide prevention. “We are proud of our partnership with EPISD and applaud the commitment the district has taken in not only caring about their student’s physical and academic wellbeing, but their mental health as well. Providing this type of awareness and care in the early years is vital,” said Kristi Daugherty, Emergence Health Network Chief Executive Officer.
